Rules to be a Good Roommate

After 42 roommates and time to reflect I submit these basic rules for living peaceably with others:

  1. Always pay your rent and bills on time. Always.
  2. Treat shared areas like public space.
  3. Ask before using - even if you know they don't mind.
  4. Do all your dishes as quickly as possible.
  5. Label your food.
  6. Do not eat fish.
  7. Things break.
  8. If you would feel really bad if something of yours broke, don't put it out to share.
  9. Pay your tithing so you stay flush.
  10. Eat so you stay sane.
  11. Read your scriptures so you stay kind.
  12. Notice your surroundings and react.
  13. Take your own good advice.
  14. Say hello and goodbye.
  15. Pray for your roommates - daily.
  16. If you vacuum your carpet at least weekly your carpet will stay very nice and comforting.
  17. Do not put holes in the walls.
  18. Clean at least one thing every day. Tidy all the time.
  19. Apologize.
  20. Ask and clarify.
  21. Air things.
  22. Change.
  23. Mourn and let go of the roommates who go and quickly welcome those who come.
  24. Things change - enjoy the ride!
  25. Don't expect your roommates to follow these rules, they're keeping ones you're breaking.

Moonlight

The full moon shines brightly through my window.
Casts a shadow on my pillow.
Wakes me.
